JWST as Witness

Every time we build an instrument fine enough to see further back, the universe answers by being older, stranger, and less finished than we had arranged for it to be. The deep field is not a settled photograph. It is a confession that the work is ongoing at every scale we can reach.

The telescope is a witness because it cannot lie about depth. It shows us light that left its source before the Earth existed, still arriving, still unfinished in its travel.
